Square in Square Pillow

I am so behind on blogging about my sewing projects. I've been spending all my free time watching Catfish and reading books. This is a pillow I made sometime last year before my bloggy break. If you follow me on Instagram (@greenletterday), I'm sure you've seen it before.

I used Tamiko's paper piecing template and fussy cut some of my favorite novelty prints to make nine blocks. At first I wasn't sure if I wanted to make a pillow or a mini quilt but when I pieced them all together, I knew it had to be a pillow. I chose not to quilt it for fear of taking attention away from the beautiful design of the blocks.

I used a regular 14" zipper to piece a really quick pillow back. I love the simplicity of it (not to mention how easy it was).

I'll be back soon to share some more projects with you. Have a great weekend!

Kaleidoscope Pillow

I'm so glad I was able to cross this project off my to-do list this week. If you follow me on Facebook, you've already gotten a little sneak peek. I had been wanting to make a Kaleidoscope pillow ever since I saw Angela's last year. Then I saw Jeni's and she included the link on where to buy the special ruler needed to make the blocks. I was thrilled! The ruler comes with instructions on how to make the blocks.

I used 6" blocks to make an 18" pillow and I decided it was time to use my entire Flea Market Fancy collection. I am in love with the combination of my favorite fabric line and my new favorite pattern. I plan to make one more pillow using my FMF to complete my spring set of three!

In other news, I've been teaching myself how to knit. I have a bucket list of things I want to achieve before I turn 30 (and I'm turning 28 in a couple of weeks so I need to get crackin!). I've crossed crochet and sewing off my list and the things that remain are knitting, learning French, and learning to play the piano. I am one step closer to crossing another thing off the list! Wish me luck!!

A Graduation Gift

I'm so proud of my cousin, Erica, who is graduating as a Dental Hygienist in a few weeks! My family and I are going up there for her graduation and I wanted to make her something special.

I had pinned this pretty pillow a couple of months ago and decided it was a good time to try it out. I used rectangles instead of square patches and I added a thin border around the whole pillow.

I based the entire layout around the typewriter from Melody Miller's most recent line. I added American Jane pezzy print in pink and a pretty pink plaid from Denyse Schmidt's "Aunt Edna" collection. I tied everything together with a coral linen as a background. For the backing, I used Michael Miller Ta Dots in Bubble gum. Hope she loves it!

Next on my agenda is this Multi-Taster Tote by Anna Maria Horner. I'm thinking my Flea Market prints would be PERFECT for this bag. Can't wait to get it done!

Zig Zag Pillow

I had originally started this project with the intentions of making the Zig Zag Tote in my Zakka Style Book. I so badly wanted to participate in the first week of the Zakka Style Sew Along but my machine was in the shop. So I went ahead and started on the first project anyway, even though they're on their second week. I was not pleased with the way my zig zags were turning out. I was getting frustrated because I had no idea what I was doing wrong, my measurements were all off, and I was pissed that I was wasting my precious FMF fabric. Against my better judgement, I proceeded and ended up making a 16" pillow instead. The points aren't perfect, but I didn't mind them so much after I quilted it.

Fabrics used:
- Robert Kaufman, Quilter's Linen in Beige
- Denyse Schmidt, Flea Market Fancy in Eyelet Pink
- Denyse Schmidt, Flea Market Fancy in Posie Turquoise

Oh, how I adore linen. They have such a fabulous texture and Robert Kaufman's collection has so many beautiful colors. I ended up loving the pillow and it now sits proudly on my sofa among all my other pretty spring pillows.

I'll be linking up to these parties.

Square Patchwork Pillow

Before I left for Spring Break, I whipped up a quick patchwork pillow for my living room using Angela's simple tutorial.

I've made one last year, but I like this one much better. Last time, I used 3/8 inch seams instead of 1/4 and it made a huge difference in the finished product.

I quilted it with lattice lines (quickly growing to be my favorite style when it comes to square patchwork) and I used a grey Heath for the backing. It was the perfect project to clear away some of my scraps that I've been sorting through.

I've been working on some great stuff to show you guys including samples for my next sewing class and another iPad case for the shop. I'll be back tomorrow with some photos from my trip! Have a Happy Thursday!!

Christmas Pillows

It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmaaaaaas!

I put up my tree and decorations awhile back but haven't really posted anything about it yet. I thought I'd share a few Christmas pillows I made for my living room.

I made this one with a bunch of red and green scraps that I had. I just made a bunch of HST's and came up with this little guy.

For this one, I just made a simple star block & sashed it with some Kona Snow.

And my personal faaaavorite! I'm so in love with this bow pillow. The red fabric is a rich, dark linen that gives it a beautiful rustic look.

I bought some dark green linen with the intention of making a matching set but never quite got around to it. I might eventually end up making one but for now, my to do list is impossibly long.

I'm getting together with an old friend tonight and I'm so excited to spend some time with her. She recently got engaged and I just looove talking about wedding preparations! Looking forward to a relaxing evening. Have a great day!

Progress

Checking things off the list one by one! Now that my hubby is home for the entire week, I can go full throttle with this Christmas Market business. I don't wanna show you everything just yet but here are some teasers.

I've finished some pillows and I have more in the making.

I've also made some reusable gift bags.

And here is a glimpse of all the iPad cases and some 10" zipper pouches I've made.

I've still got a bajillion things I need to get done like pricing and display but I'm moving right along! I'm really nervous that I won't sell a single thing. I might just cry if that happens! Just make sure and send me happy thoughts next weekend lol. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!

Happy Mail

I received part 2 of my swap with Katie and I love everything! She made me a gorgeous houndstooth/rosette pillow, a birdie t-shirt and a pear mug rug. She's so sneaky. She had posted a picture of the pillow on her facebook, saying it was hers and ofcourse, I drooled all over it. Can you imagine my surprise when it came in the mail for ME??

Yeah, I stole all these pictures from Katie's blog. I haven't taken any of my own pics. I've really been dragging in that department. Do you notice all the handstitched goodness that she added? Those details always make me smile. I'm so happy to have met Katie 6 months ago when she won my very first giveaway. We've become great friends since then and I'm a happier person having her in my life! Thanks for all the goodies Katie!

And now I can finally post about the things I sent to Nicke a couple of weeks ago. I pretty much passed the swap deadline by like a month! I'm so bad! But I hope she liked all the goodies I sent her. I know she's a Hope Valley addict like me so that was my main focus.

Whoa, Bonnie! Is that Hope Valley stationary?? Why, yes it is!! I was totally oblivious of the fact that Denyse Schmidt made paper goods too. And now that I know, I'm obsessed! I got a set for Nicke and a set for myself.

The ruffle pouch is lined with Hope Valley scraps and is made with osnaburg (love!).

And the Hope Valley patchwork pouch has got to be my absolute favorite item ever! It has a magnetic closure and is lined with the same Kona Coal that I used on my Hope Valley quilt.

I also threw in some Joel Dewberry "Heirloom" FQ's. She had mentioned in one of her posts that this was her favorite colorway so I couldn't resist.

These swaps have been very enjoyable and have added so much delight to my days. I enjoy making things for my partners and I just love receiving packages in the mail. It makes ordinary days feel like Christmas! Speaking of which, are you looking forward to a Christmas swap??!

Scrap Buster Fall Pillows

I'm in love with my new fall pillows! Well one is for me and I made the other one for my cousin, who happens to share my fondness of fall and holidays in general. Since it was a birthday present, I let her have first pick. She chose the one on the left.

Hers has the orange polka dot backing. Mine has a soft green damask print. Both have envelope closures (easiest thing in the world to do!).

If you're interested in making some for yourself, I got the tutorial from here. The only difference in mine is that I made them 18" instead of 16". I just added two inches to all the measurements given.

Hope you all are enjoying FALL so far! Have a wonderful Thursday!!

Swap Sent

You might know that I hosted a swap this past month for a small group of bloggers that signed up. This past Monday was our deadline to send out our packages. I wouldn't be me if I didn't take on too much so ofcourse, I assigned myself two partners! Katie received her first package yesterday so I'm free to blog about it now.

We agreed that we would send our goodies out in stages as we finish them because we have both been really busy. Katie and I share a love of birdies and she strongly hinted that she needed a checkbook cover. She's also in the process of re-decorating her living room so to start off, I made her a pillow cover and a checkbook wallet.

I had this idea for a pillow as soon as I started working on her stuff. One of the things I love about Katie is that she often blogs about her husband and I know she is totally head over heels for him. This hits close to home because they remind me of my relationship with MY lovebird.

I wanted this pillow to sort of say a love story for them. (I am so making one of these for myself next)

For her checkbook cover, I used some Valori Wells Wrenly fabric with cute little birds. I can't get enough of this fabric, it's adorable! I used this pattern.

I also sent her a cute bright orange OPI nail polish that I can totally picture her wearing because her style is so fun. I hope she really likes all of her goodies!
