I started this quilt for my bed back in... July! I was making excuses left and right on why I hadn't finished it yet (I needed fabric for the backing, I was scared to quilt it, I didn't know how to make my own bias tape, blah blah blah). Finally, I just went for it and finished it last week. Here's my hubby standing on top of a chair outside trying to hold it up for me.
The final dimensions are about 95" by 85" with the grey border. I made HSTs with Denyse Schmidt's "Hope Valley" collection and used a pale yellow flat sheet for the back. With my left over fabric, I made a pieced binding and a matching pillow.
I used straight line quilting on either side of each block seam. I stayed away from the border because I didn't want the yellow thread to show on the dark grey.
We have been using it in our bed for about a week now and I finally decided to pull it outside and snap some pictures for you guys. It's so soft and comfy! And it looks so happy in our room.
Please excuse the poor lighting. We only have one window in our bedroom and my husband tinted it REALLY dark awhile ago. I had been coveting those yellow flower pillows at Target for so long but they were too expensive. When I saw them for 50% off, I snatched up the last two!
It's far from perfect and I love it with all its imperfections! I am SO proud of myself!
It turned out awesome Bonnie!! I'm so excited you finally finished it! It looks like a pro did it! Oh, and I'm drooling over those pillows!! Yummy!

ReplyDeleteThat is so gorgeous! Good job finishing it:)
ReplyDeleteYou SHOULD be proud of yourself! You did a fabulous job!! I love it! I have heard so much about the Denyse S. fabrics at Joann's that I finally went last night to get some for myself. I was so disappointed that they only had a few bolts of some odds and ends, but no complete lines. I hope they get more. Your quilt is lovely on your bed, and the flower pillows just make it perfect!!!

ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI know you've had this quilt done for some time now, but I wanted to comment after reading your post on it and your excuses in taking so long to get it done etc., etc. I think though you'll believe me more so now than you would have if I'd found your posting a week after you finished it anyway. We can always get better at our technique in piecing or quilting, find fun shortcuts for binding etc. however, that first quilt, that we absolutely love, will always be perfect! Perfection does not always speak to the technical aspects. Sometimes it speaks to the color, the blending of patterns, the feeling of the cotton as it's used and washed and loved. The feeling that this physical bit of cloth, sewn together by our hands, shares in our history and our memories as those memories are made, from it's own conception and creation, and lives on even after we do, if we're lucky, wrapping our loved ones in those memories and most importantly, our love. There is no greater perfection, no matter how much your technique may improve.
Have a Great Day,
Kristen (Another "Perfect Quilter" )
p.s. It IS GORGEOUS!! I keep forgetting that even though I've been thinking that from the time I saw the small "You might also like..." post, that you can't hear what my brain has been saying about it lol. Great color, love the half square triangles, love the simple quilting you used, love it ALL!!!
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love!!! Thanks for the inspiration!
